The Red Book

This book I would kill for.... It is utterly amazing and wow-facotring!

And apparently, it's one of Andrew VanwynGarden's favourite books - I can see why!

The Red Book, by Carl Jung is also known as Liber Novus (latin for New Book)
It is a 205-page manuscript written and illustrated by the Swiss psychiatrist.
Oringionally written between 1914 and 1930, the Red Book was only available to be view by the public in 2009!

I guess that's one of the reasons why I'm so fascinated by it, the fact that it has been hidden for such an eternity. I am just hypnotised by the drawings in the book. They take me on the most wonderful trip.
SO, I'd better start saving my money because this book costs anywhere between 100 - 300 dollars.

And Finally, totally Electric eel, yeah?

Cut A Rug #1

Alright, so this section, Cut A Rug,  is all about music and covers/mash-ups of music.
Enjoy, I'll try posting a few once every one or two weeks - but you  really never know when one could pop up!

Toady we are focusing on 'The Naked and Famous', a punchy New Zealand band, featured on Triple J. They released their first studio album September, 2010, titled Passive Me, Aggressive You.

Here is the original song that's the star of today's post:

Now, this specific cover was from Triple J's like a version. It's Mission in Motion with their cover of Punching in a Dream! (I personally ADORE this song)

Finally, to give this post the inevitable MGMT twist, here's a mash up I found of 'Kids' & 'Punching in a Dream'

Enjoy :)
And stay tuned for other 'Cut A Rug' posts which can appear at any time!

THe Handshake - Live @ The Enmore!

THIS, my friends, is a video of the concert I was at. It is not mine, But I would have been in a similar position to this person! (right up front, slightly to the left)

I thought I'd share it as it's my most favourite song of all time. I do apologise for the slightly poor quality, but this one captured my experiences & view the best.

How utterly Spectacular is it!?!?!

I feel so elated reliving it...

Pieces of What?

I'm a patch-work quilt.
My personality is a mixture - pieces of other people and objects.
Pieces of people that inspire me, pieces of books that I love, pieces of characters that interest me, pieces of music I adore.

Pieces of What, exactly?
Well, It's hard to tell. I've been collecting for so many years now that I can't differ between what i have always thought, or what I've taken on board because someone else believed in it.

It's never occurred to me before now, but does that make me not really me at all? Or does it make me a very complex individual?
I'm confused, but I don't know how to change. Honestly, I don't want to change, because everyone else is so much more interesting than myself.

The Rainbow Effect

Today I wore my favourite shirt - a black t-shirt with white-circle tie dye patterns.
I bought it for 50 cents at an op-shop and wore it to my MGMT concert.

-Fold a piece of clothing in vertical pleats, and you'll end up with horizontal stripes. Horizontal pleats result in vertical stripes (more slimming, you know). Diagonal pleats make a nice effect.

-For the now-traditional spiral, you lay the garment on a flat smooth surface, smooth out all the wrinkles, then make a small pleat right across where you want the center to be. Grab the very center of that pleat with a clothes pin, and begin to twist. As you twist, pleats appear farther and farther away from the center; as these pleats get too large, split the pleats with your hands, keeping each fold the same height above the table, no more than one to two inches in height.

Now, I know the MGMT boys have swayed slight from their tie-dye days, but I couldn't resist in sharing this image.

I'm a Believer, My Heart is Phosphor

I thought this post was appropriate, although the relevance to MGMT is quite minimal.
But I relate to these lyrics, all too well.
I am a believer, and a dreamer. It sometimes gets me into trouble, and sometimes it's all a little too much for those who I'm surrounded by.
But I can't help but believe that I will do something good in my life, something that I want to do.
I do believe that positivity and peace is the key, and that love is the answer.
I believe in mystic things and mystic lands, but that might proove me strange.
I believe in myself, on occasions, although I could work on this.
I believe in mother nature. I believe she is the god of this earth.
I believe that EVERYONE should believe in themselves, because everyone has the potential to do something - anything that they put their mind to.
Heck, I believed that I would see MGMT live in concert, and this was well before any incling of them coming to Australia aroused. I took a while but I kept believeing. And it happened. Many things have happened in my life because I believe that they can.

A Flash of Facebook's Delirium

sue the spiders
sink the Welsh
stab your facebook
sell, sell, sell

Go on, stab your facebook.

It’s a horrid site which unfortunately I am involved in.

But I know my limits. I know the dangers. I still know how to write in proper English and how to talk to someone face-to-face, or over the phone, at least.
I know what facebook is doing to the world we live in, and quite frankly, it’s not good.

I’m not going to blab on about how getting to 1000 friends is pointless, especially if you have to add strangers to do so; about how a hand-written, or at least hard-copy, birthday invite would be appreciated every now and then; about the fact that three status’ per day completely waste’s the readers time. I’m not even going to talk about the fact - and it is a fact – that Facebook is RUINING OUR WORLD!

No, I’m merrily going to ask you this:

Can you disconnect from your facebook for a day? A week? A month!?

Get back to basics. Give that friend a phone call, write out those invites by hand, and don’t waist valuable time on such a waste-of-time-site.

We only live once, so does spending countless hours on Facebook make your life even worth living

MGMT aren't lively?

Before I officially begin my first post (get excited!), I want to make a quick author's note.
This post was the foundation for the inspiration of this blog, although it didn’t actually initiate from a very positive background. But don’t fear! Because here, anything goes. And despite the fact that the idea came from a degrading MGMT review, I like to thank those writer’s who published it. You’re the reason my overly-active imagination came up with this idea.
So, let’s begin, shall we?

Spectacular sounds and reviving lyrics. Musicians who really know their stuff, and a crowd whom loved every second while these said musicians were on stage. Not to mention a flaming birthday cake given to a band member on their ageing day.
Yes, I am describing experiences that I was lucky enough to be present for –
MGMT @ Enmore Theatre, Sydney You can imagine my surprise, and utter delight when I came across professional pictures from the event. I was ecstatic, cruising through the gallery. Even more so, when I found a review attatched.
The thing was, it was a review and a notion that I wasn't expecting at all.

“MGMT is still the same band we saw in 2008. Each member remained glued to their designated spot on the stage for almost the entirety of the set. ... The majority of the audience didn’t appear overly impressed by MGMT’s performance, only coming alive when the band launched into hits Kids, Electric Feel and Time to Pretend.”

Now I totally understand that it’s just one person's opinion, and everyone is entitled to have a say. But I’d just like to give a semi-review myself.
I am a massive fan of the band, and that may or may not sway my judgement. But I truly enjoyed every second of the ninety minute performance, and couldn’t care less that the band chose consciously to stay ‘glued to the exact spot’ in stage.
I feel as if we got a better performance musically, whereas Pond (whom were still extremely groovy) seemed messy – concentrating more on their movement, rather than their sound.
I, and I know, most of the crowd were in ultimate bliss for the whole of MGMT’s performance. Heck, unless my side of the stage, right up front, was largely overrun by massive fans – the critic should have gotten the same experience as I – almost every lyric sung, for every single song. Even the wonderful, twelve minute Siberian Breaks didn’t go astray.

This brings me to a question, readers. What is your opinion on live music? Even if the band/singer’s live performance doesn’t live up the sound on their record, should they be downgraded as a whole?

It’s a tough question, and I am wanting to say yes. Because live is best, live is real.
And MGMT were real, they were better and they were fun.
There is no point having an auto-tuned voice, so much so that a singer can't even do a worthy live show - but, in toe with the moral of this story, everyone has their own opinion.

Jay
